Tellstrom takes lead into Stockton

Ukiah driver holds 30-point advantage over defending champion Winters

LAKE COUNTY — With just one race remaining on the North State Modified Series 2020 schedule, Ukiah’s Kyle Tellstrom is sitting pretty atop the point standings heading into the Oct. 24 finale at the Stockton 99 Speedway.

Tellstrom, the big winner Saturday of the Lloyd Burton Against the Wind Modified Series at Shasta Speedway in Anderson, consolidated his hold atop the point standings with his second main event victory of the season. He has 312 points, which is 30 more than runner-up and defending NSMS champion Scott Winters of Tracy, who has 282 points going into the Bob Lehman Classic on Oct. 24 in Stockton.

Darrin Sullivan of Kelseyville currently holds the third spot in the standings with 262 points, Dustin DeRosier of Cloverdale is fourth with 226, and Mike Sullivan of Kelseyville is fifth with 222.

Rounding out the top 10 drivers going into Stockton are Charlie Collins with 221 points, Cody Braund with 218, Chris Salmina with 212, Ian Elliott with 206, and Keith Bloom with 202.

Darrin Knight of Kelseyville, a three-time NSMS champion, is 13th with 180.

Economy Heating and Air has added a $2,000 bonus to the winner’s share for the Stockton race, bringing the first-place money to $3,000. Another $1,000 donated by the Great American Seed Company will be distributed to other competitors.

North State Modified Series is presented by Protest the Harvest. Its sponsors also include Lucas Oil, Hoosier Tire West, Sunoco Race Fuels, Naake Suspension, Five Star Bodies, Racer Bling, Mark & Sharon Baldwin, Scribner Plastics, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Economy Heating and Air, GASCO and Mort Houston.
